David, a retired sea captain (unlimited master) with 52 years of ocean-going experience. His first job as a captain was running a supply ship for Global Marine in Houston Texas.
For many years he has been involved in researching why whales beach, and created a large website deafwhale.com about that topic
He also wrote about the Mary Celeste, as he had a theory that the crew experienced a sea quake and this was the reason they abandoned ship. Sadly, his website has ceased operation.
However, I have a retained a copy and with his permission intend to reproduce some of the content here. The research, diagrams, opinions, are all his. Personally I favour the idea of cargo problems due to personal experience of alcohol fires and explosions. Of course a seaquake could have initiated 'trouble in the hold', so the two ideas are not exclusive.
